any 1 tell me what the difference would be roughly going from a

6600 agp 128mb

to a

HIS X1950Pro 256MB 256bit GDDR3 Dual Link DVI TV HDCP AGP Graphics Card

rest of my system is as follows

msi kt6v mobo
1gb ddr400
amd athalon xp 3000 2.1ghz
550 power supply.

this is a last ditch upgrade to get my gaming performance back that vista took off me.

i intend to upgrad ethe graphics if its worth it and keep it for another year or so.

any feedback is much appreciated

You need more RAM 1GB of ram is not enough to game properly on Vista sadly.

Look at it like this. XP really need 512Mb to run properly, 1GB was nice ad comfy.

Where as Vista Need 1GB to run, and 2Gb is comfy territory.

I have 3GB and I really noticed the difference from the 1Gb I initally had in the system

EDIT: The X1950 range is very good value for money, I am looking at getting my self two X1950Pro's to run in crossfire. They are relatively very cheap

been told that the x1950pro is better and made by HIS

you think id see a definate nice improvment by upgrading to that, then im plannin on keeping the pc for a couple years, only play the odd game but when i do i like to play them on decent settings where as now my 6600 agp is struggling thanks to vista poop!

if im getting 30-35fps now on low what should i expect to see with that card.

the 30-35 fps is found from css video stress test. on low 1440x900 no antialiasing and most stuff on low. such as reflections.

although put on ut2004 and it doesnt seem any differnt....

I’ve just got rid of a X800GTO in PCIE flavour and purchased a X1950Pro 512Mb card and the difference is huge  for the price mate the X1950’S are at it’s a steal, the OcUK card at £70 is a absolute bargain :)

Edit NVM about the PCIE card I missed AGP :o , even so aren’t they the fastest AGP cards? just got one for a friend in the MenbersMarket for £85 can’t see much difference if any compared to mine.

the 1950pro will be significantly faster than the 6600...

Oh, and i would edit out your swearies if i were you

okies ill look at getting the agp version

is it better for 256 or 512

as some 1 said that the extra 256 on a 512 agp makes naff all difference.

I wouldn't be worried about the extra ram on the 512 model.
The recuded bus speed on AGP would probably more than cancel out the benefits of extra ram as I would expect the extra ram to require more bandwidth to get data onto the card.

just orderd a gfx card now :D

HIS X1950Pro 256MB 256bit GDDR3 Dual Link DVI TV HDCP AGP Graphics Card

should be here by wednesday :D then ill post my findings.

going to go find out my benchmarking software in a bit, and then see how my system performs now and after.

also i wanna overclock my cpu from a 3000xp but when i up the fsb up 1 it wont boot, would this be a power issue. would upping the cpu voltage enable me to overclock the cpu?

had a 2200 sempron and that overclocked from 333 to 400fsb.

You should see a drastic improvement in performance, even with the Athlon XP 3000 CPU.

As for the overclocking issue it could be any number of things (though i am no expert). Was the past overclocking done on this mobo? What ram / timings are you using. You could try upping the CPU voltage if temps are ok, but youre getting near the max speed of Athlon CPU's so you may not be able to overclock (much).

i got vista to have legal o/s

xp pro was copied.

i've used the same mobo n ram for the sempron as i am using for the athalon.

i think its just somthing to do with this chip.

The x1950pro should get a score in 3dMark05 of around 7000-8000. The 6660 will struggle to get 4000. You're looking at a 50% increase. Just make sure your PSU can handle it!.

According to the specs you posted i think the PSU should be ok.

I dont think you need any other benchmarks tbh, i dont use any others myself.

Just grab your favorite game & play it :)
