6600GT Core speed question

Just got the above card second hand and installed Rivertune.

When I have checked the Hardware Moniter it shows my Memory running at 900MHZ but the Core only running at 299mhz

Is this normal? I thought the core on this card should run at 500mhz.

Its the APG version it that helps?

Sorry I have just run media player to have some graphics running and the core jumped the 501Mhz take it I was looking at the 2D speed?

Is this normal for core to move speeds ?

300Mhz is the 2D clock speed. Try starting up a game and it will increase to 500Mhz. It's perfectly normal.

For the AGP version of the 6600GT nVidia decided to handicap it's memory bandwidth for some reason. The RAM should be exactly the same as on the PCIe version so you should be able to set it to 1000Mhz+

I have had an AGP 6600GT (PNY) and a PCIe 6600GT (AOpen) and they both did the same sort of overclock to around 575/1150.

What is the best software to clock this card?

I have rivertune but dont know how it works.

I have heard of somthing called cool bits before is that any good or can you recomend anything else?

Coolbits is just something which goes into your registry and then you overclock it from here:

i found it best to keep rivatuner abd nvidia's own clocking options tied together, match the frequencies, to avoid conflict... get a good cooler and oltage mod....

6600GT is a goo card..
