I have a 6600GT in my computer and I play BF2 on my 19" LCD screen.

Would a 6800LE be better than my current display card?

how about unlocking the 6800LE ??

couldn't affort the 6800GT or 7800GT tho.....

They are about on par at stock - but the LE will perform miles better once overclocked + unlocked.

It should at least get to 12,6 and some pretty decent mem + core speeds.
 
Higher resolutions would benefit from the 256bit memory bus, but only if unlocked to 12 or 16 pipes.

I assume you play at 1280x1024 on that 19"?

If so, a 6800LE would probably be within +/- 2-3fps of the 6600GT at current settings, pulling slightly ahead at 12 pipelines, a reasonable margin at 16 pipes.

If this upgrade is going to cost you very little/nothing due to sale of 6600GT I'd go for it, but not if you've got to spend £80-£100 on it. If it doesn't unlock you've got a potentially slower card on your hands and a chunk out of your bank balance, and chances of selling a 6800LE that doesn't unlock for anywhere near the retail price are very slim.
 
so I guess I can buy a 6800LE and unlock and overclock it....

do I need better heatsink and stuff as I have no clue in this new series of cards?

I can even put the 6600GT for sales to make up cost too :)

GS is the replacement for the GT as they stopped making the GTs.

On PCI-E it's a good buy and a nice fast card, matching the GT in a lot of things.

On AGP it's over priced (IMO) and doesn't perform particularly well - as far as I've read on here anyway; I haven't actually seen a review for the AGP card yet, but it looks like it's just a 6800NU with GDDR3.
 
Yes I agree, LE's are definatley worth the money. I bought mine not long ago, it unlocked to 12,6 and performs well, I was surprised at how well it ran COD2 (I have not even started overclocking it yet, just unlocked).

LE gets the thumbs up from me. :)
 
NJ, gfet nibitor if you are feeling brave and crank it up to 1.2v and set the fan speed to 90%, get more overclocking potential, mine runs at the stock clock temp on my overclock in sig :D

as for the op i would say the 6800LE is better than your 6600gt and has better potential. however as said previously unless your seling your 6600gt too cover the bulk of a 6800LE's cost then it probably isnt worth it.

I'd opt for the Asus V9999/TD/128 6800 128mb AGP for £105 from a popular etailer.

Feedback, which sums the card up:

This is a great card.
It is a 12 pipeline 6800 with 325Mhz core and 700Mhz memory (2.8ns on mine).
I've unlocked an extra 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader with no artifacts.
Overclocked to 350/800 and this gives a 3dmark2003 score of 10,477 on an Athlon64 3200+
You get an orange cd case full of games too!
It's a little noisy though.

Thanks for the info guys, I am going to overclock the card tonight and see what it's packing ;). Ok so the program I need is nibitor?. What is the maximum voltage I should be putting through the card?.
 
I do need the card to last me at least another year. I won't play with the voltage. Thanks Phil.
 
1.2v is nearly 100% safe, it doesnt stress the components badly from what i have read - hence why i stuck at it and increased the cooling speed, when you start hitting 1.4v+ the card has a life expectancy of about 12 months tho lolol

ive been running 1.2v since july and its never got over 62 degrees on load, think it got to 62 after an hour of HL2 with everything cranked up full at 1280x1024, so aint gonna shout at it for that.

with 16 pipelines open you shouldnt need the extra voltage tbh, you are hot on my heels in 3dmark and you havent started clocking heavily yet!!!!

the ceiling before an exclamation mark appears in Rivatuner should be 375/875, if you get to that holding stable you should be looking at around 11.5-12k in 3d mark, which is a storming score for a £100 card :).

Im getting artifacts at 16 pipelines too, however I am more then happy with 12,6.

Last night I clocked my card to 350/700 (only a 25mhz increase on the core) however my gpu temps will hit 67 degrees after gaming (NFSMW on 1024x768).

I tried 375 on the core and the temps went to 70+ (I haven't even touched the memory yet). :(

My fan speed is set to 70% for standard 2d, 90% low power 3d, and 90% performance 3d.

Anything else I can to do to improve my clock?.

NJ- what brand of NU do you have?

My Leadtek NU doesnt reach that temperature even when put under 400,900 - and running the artifact tester for an hour.
