I'm looking to make a quick and dirty upgrade to my graphics card. Is it worthwhile me going from a 6600GT 128Mb PCI-E to a 6800GS 256Mb? I haven't been following the GFX market too closely lately, but it's my understanding that the GS is an update version of the GT?

It seems more like a sideways jump than a proper upgrade with a bumped up core speed but only 12 pixel pipelines. I'd be more inclined to save the little bit extra for a 7800gt which ensures you will see a decent jump in performance and will cost ~£200. An alternative to the 6800gs is the X800XL in the Powercolor sale which costs about the same as well.

Or as a complete alternative for £50 cheaper there is always the X850XT. Much faster than the 6600gt although not as quick as the 7800gt.

Your best bet is save for the 7800gt.
