I use my PC mainly for gaming then movies/TV then browsing. I have the upgrade itch.

Current spec:
i5 6600K @4ghz (will go higher)
16GB DDR4 3000 I think. Maybe 3200
KFA 2060

Thinking of going Ryzen 3600 but as I'm on a 60hz 1080p TV will it be worth the bother?

Thanks.

Not really worth it tbh i had a 6600k @4.6ghz and for 1080p it was still more than good enough.

Get it clocked as high as it can go and maybe think about upgrading next gen.

I just recently went from a 6600k @ 4.4ghz to a 8600k that runs @ 5.0ghz but its toasty so dialed it down to 4.8ghz and it made abit of an difference in performance.

Push the 6600k alittle more for that extra bit of performance and it's fine.

In before the OMG 4 CORE DEAD IN THE WATER!!!1111 posts.

New 12 thread ryzen would be a big upgrade no doubts, but more sensible (economic) upgrade would be to just insert :p some i7 in there.

Unfortunately getting a i7 6700k/7700k isn't really a sensible economic upgrade as the prices on them on auction sites are still high and good luck being able to get one on say the MM as when they do rarely appear, if it's a good price it usually gets bought within minutes.

Tbf if you wanted to upgrade you can sell your cpu for the same price as a new 3600. Good z170 boards are holding good money too.

You don't need to upgrade, but it could be done for little to no cost to you.... depending on the cpu you want

i5 6600K is worth £80 at most, and unless it is a very high end board then you are looking at £50-70 for the board. Total cost to move to R5 3600 plus a cheap B450 is about £265 minus those two, so about £100-135

I am very sorry I read this as a 6700k. My bad.

In that case you need to upgrade depending on your used. About 4 months ago I have an unlocked skylake cpu that did 4.4ghz and it was a disgusting gaming cpu for the likes of battlefield, COD and Fozer. Unless your happy on mid settings

Its silly but 4 threads just cant keep up with newer games
I have a thread on here the cpu was 90/100% all the time and gpu around 60%.

The board is an MSI Z170A Tomahawk and tbh I've read plenty of threads elsewhere about older i5 CPUs causing stuttering and what not but maybe I've been lucky but everything I play from Bf V to PubG to CoD or CsGO runs at either high or ultra settings no problem. Maybe it's because I'm limited to 1080p 60 I don't know. I just saw everyone raving about the new Ryzen stuff and my kit is now a few years old I got the upgrade itch.

Well if you can't see any problems the don't bother changing anything. :)

Just stay away from people who have better systems or you might start seeing issues you didn't realise were there. ;)

100% agree if it works keeps it.

Like I said when I had an skylake i5 battlefield 1 was unplayable at 1080 60fps high settings. This was 64man servers. I picked up a 6700 and all was solved.

Mid settings all AA's off, field of view was a big problem at stock the game was ok. But then you cant see people/tanks at longs range
