6600K Where to go?

I've been enjoying my 6600K for a few years, running a 4k setup but generally play at 2k with a 1070.

I am thinking about upgrading the end of 2021 or early 2022 and wondering which direction to go in? I am not very impressed with Intels latest offering and wondered where we will stand on this front by end of the year.

I was thinking about an easy MOBO and CPU swap out but wasn't sure if just to get a 7700k or entirely upgrade to something new.

It does seem a tough choice of where to upgrade to. "Rocket Lake" does not seem 'worth the silicon'. I guess a move to AMD or intel from a 6600K would be good. I'd like to work towards 4k gaming but doing it all in one go is costly prohibitive.

It's certainly a tough choice considering what is around the corner and the supply shortages. That I run a 4k monitor but cant utilise it is maddening.

Looks also like the 11400 isn't a bad upgrade for little as a stop gap...

It does seem the most awkward time to purchase. The choice seems to be hang fire or buy a stop gap system. Jumping on DDR5 and all that when it comes maybe a bit premature.

At least I think it rules out paying to go to a 7700K.

Would I be able to use the ram from 6600K system temporarily in a new Ryzen or Intel temp build?

is there any benefit to getting a better Z590 motherboard?

It does seem intel offer the budget offer, seemingly the only thing they can offer against AMD at present.

My timetable to upgrade will be the last few months of this year, so would the advice be to see what happens, else fall back on a temporary build with a 10400?
