Got some birthday funds available and after watching z reviews I was looking at the 660s as they apparently sound good and are easy to run. But wondered what other options there are?

Requirement are:
Balanced capable (either OEM or cable swap)
Not terribly hard to drive
Available on Amazon (voucher balance)

Was interested in the 712 Pro but no option for balanced..

I cannot imagine there is anything as good as them for less than £400 and as easy to drive, the DT 1990 PRO's are within budget but do seem to require more amping, though I might be wrong.

do they really need to be easy to drive (i'm reading that as low impedance) if you are running balanced? running balanced i would assume you'd be using quite a capable amp anyway? or are there balanced amps out there that cant drive 300ohm cans?

DT1990 came to mind, but they are single entry cable as the K712 are, which I assume is the reason why the OP said no option for balanced. I don't think you can use headphones with a balanced headphone amp unless you have separate ground from each driver. With single entry headphones, the ground is shared for both left and right.

Good point above though; any headphone amp that is balanced, is not going to be a cheap one, so really should be capable of driving HD650's for example.

Yeah, balanced doesn't use shared ground.
And unlike Amiron Home, DT1990 uses single cable.

Wouldn't say I'm running anything special amp wise for balanced at the moment. Mainly portable kit like the q1 mk2 and Radsone bt receiver (which I read runs 6xx fine) but something like an Aune s6 will follow soon.

These are supposed to be massdrop 660's(or 650's cant find the review now) for $149 Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee
Going to get some so i can retire my 595's.

Screw you amazon. In the space of 1.5 hours in adding 660s to my basket and then walking away from my pc, the price has jumped up almost 50 quid.

Grab the link from the rainforest, head over to camel camel camel and create an alert for your desired price, then when it goes below this it'll email you straight away. It's also useful to see the price history of the item.

Not sure how accurate that thing is, ccc still shows the old cheaper price.

I think it may take 1/2 days to update but I've always found it accurate.
