Hi Guys

I upgraded my PC over Christmas but didn't quite have the funds to update the graphics card (currently a Nvidia 460ti).

I only play on a single screen which has a max res of 1920x1200 and have no real plans to exceed or extend this in the future.

I find myself after Crimblemass with around £240 spare and I have decided to get a new GPU

I have looked at both the 660ti and the 7950 and it really is swings and roundabouts as to which I should get, I play a mix of games from all different studios and types so I really after the most consistent performer across the board.

So I am really after opinions as to which card is the "one" and which make/model I should go for.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info so far guys, I should have mentioned that I have no desire to OC the card either would likely just be using it as stock out the box.

Well that slightly changes matters but I'd still go for the 7950. But overclocking is literally moving a slider to the right. You've OC'd your i5, why not the GPU?

Even just a mild overclock to 1000 on the core won't affect its lifespan tbh but will get a noticeable amount more out of the card.

Any reason why not? Overclocking a GPU is easier than a CPU really and I can see from your signature that you've done that.

It's just a case of moving 4 sliders and you're good to go. :)

Just 2 sliders for me to get a modest 1025/1350 out of my 7950 :)

Well its worth looking into then, I am guessing the Gigabyte card "clocks" well.

The i5 was a pre-clocked bundle from OCUK, but it was supposed to be running at 4.4ghz, but it just wasn't stable so I've underclocked it a bit and its rock solid.

Overclocking is literally, as said before, moving 2 sliders to the right. You don't even need to look into it- run a benchmark suite in the background and move the sliders until you hit artifacts/freeze up. It's childsplay.

The 7950 has hefty overclocking headroom, you may as well accept the free performance.

I would go for a 7950. Really easy to overclock. Literally a few minutes. You will get better performance than a non-overclocked 670 (close to an overclocked 670)

Free Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite games sweaten the deal too.

Almost correct.

When clocked up the 7950 is marginally quicker than the 670 :). Won't get a fag paper between them though.

I think thats pretty much my mind made up then Ta guys....just need to wait for the BACS transfer from the trade in of my old mobile and I can get it ordered :).
