Even though i have 6572kb of free memory in the phone (2346kb in use) and 27mb of free memory on the card (34mb in use) every other day i get the message that the memory is full and it tells me to try closing some applications. However no other applications are open other than the one the error message has come up in - this could be when trying to open a text or when trying to take a picture.

The only way around this i can find is to switch off my phone, which i personally don't feel i should have to switch it off every other day, i've never had to switch of any of the other nokia phones i've had in the past.

Tonight i was thinking, I send a receive quite a lot of text 40 to 80 a day but i always clear out my sent box pretty much straight away and i only keep a couple of messages in my in box (currently 2) but are these texts clogging up the RAM memory and by switching off i'm doing a physical dump of whats in the RAM - if this maybe the case is there away to "clear the cache" without switching off?

In FExplorer i see the following:

C: (6572/8936KB) <flash>
D: (1280/1291KB) <ram>
E: (26/60MB) <disk>
Z: (0/0KB) <rom>

Best way to get it faster i found was by pressing the button underneath the green dial phone button on the left. This will bring up a submenu and then just scroll up to whichever program is running and press the 'c' button and just quit the program.

I know this little trick, from an earlier post, but my problem happens when only one application is open, Telephone is always there you can't close that. I'll go to take a picture and i get the memory error, the only applications shown open by holding down the Menu key are telephone & camera, if it happens when i try to read a text message and it happens the only applications open are telephone & messaging.

I only switch the phone off when i get the error - My personal opinion is that i have a mobile phone so that i can be in constant contact i don't feel i should have to keep switching it off. Smart phones eh! not so smart lol

Hmmm strange that, mine stops compaining once i have closed the apps down. Try deleting your pics, texts and what have you on your phone or move them to the mem card. If that dont work or is still giving u problems then pop down to a nokia service center and see if they have any firmware upgrades available for it. I would do it but i aint got the time to go round visiting one and plus im getting shot of mine soon as the n80 arrives.

Everything is on the mem card and i just got a new 512mb one as well, the most texts i have stored on the phone is 2

It's not the first time i've had this problem infact i had it immedeately once i'd got the phone, had it a week but didn't use it as i was awating a number port then used it for a week and got this problem took it back to vodafone who sent it off to be repaired, it came back after 10 days they said they had replaced the keypad PCB. another week with the same problems so i took it to a nokia service centre who said there was newer software and they would flash it a week past and i heard nothing so called them and they said that they couldn't flash the phone so had sent it off to nokia 18 days later a new phone came back. I hardly had the first phone in my possesion, now this new phone has the same problems.

Anyone know where i stand with taking the phone back to vodafone and getting something different? The phone was purchased on the 31/01/06

Bit of a long shot, but have you checked the sim card memory? (messages>>options>>sim messages).

This holds approx 10-20 messages and they don't show in the inbox or anywhere else on the phone, but if they are full will give the same error message as the handset memory being full.

Didn't know that one, have just checked and there are 3 messages on the sim card - deleted now, and i've changed the message memory to memory card instead of phone.

How can i get the couple of saved messages i have on the phone memory onto the memory card?
