67.2 MPG

So today, didn't break the speed limit the entire journey and was amazed to get incredible mpg. However because it took me 2.5 HOURS longer than usual I had to stop for a meal so really it is cheaper to speed.
Until you end up in court, pay a fine and possibly costs and lose your licence :p

Yeah well I was in court on Monday and got £150 fine, £35 costs. Didn't lose my licence though.

However whether I got caught or not on Friday I think now that one does actually have to stick to 70 very carefully. I wasn't really watching my speed on Friday and just drifted up to 79 and that is enough to get 3 more points sadly. With a 1km range by the time you see the van chances are they have already got you.

So, that's £185. That's 37 KFC/Burger King meals at a service station.

And you'd save on fuel sticking to sensible speeds.

False economy.

I've had these from cold on a 16 mile drive to and from work in the Fabia VRS. It's 15 miles of motorway and half a mile at each end of 30mph road. Home is a sea level and work is at ~80m above sea level.

54mpg going up the hill and 76mpg coming down... on the flat I can get over 60mpg on a normal motorway run.

10 miles for £1 - whatever that works out as mpg wise.

40MPG I think.

My 214 used to get that ALL the time.

Big engines suck. You're just more tempted to put your foot down, and that's when you can actually see the fuel gauge go down.

I don't have a fancy trip computer though, so don't really worry about MPG. I just look at the gauge... "Bah, I can squeeze another 50 miles out of it."

Managing anything between 45-50mpg out of my 3.0 V6 Vectra CDTi SRi lately.

I'm finding that bizzarely, the longer you hold it in lower gears and keep the revs spinning high, the better fuel consumption you get. Had just been lazy and relying on the torque before, but since revving it a bit higher, the mpg has improved quite considerably. Learned that ages ago on an Evasive driving course, but never bothered putting it into practice in my own car until now.

In my 2.5 V6 TDI I can generally get around 40MPG if you stick the cruise on at a "sensible";) speed. My average tends to be around 35-38MPG though.

My 2.5 V6 is a petrol, and doesn't get anywhere near 40mpg when you're caning it unsurprisingly :) Dead impressed to get over 40mpg out of it on a long run though.

Sorry to go off topic but I've just noticed your sig Draeger. I used to read the DoD forums about 3 years ago and can't believe the news about Tekkobra :(

I've found that using cruise is far more fuel-inefficient than using my right foot, but we've had this conversation before on here.

Mine will do 60mpg at 60mph. 80mph gives around 48mpg and it drops to about 43mpg at 90mph.

I got an average of 75mpg out of my old MK3 Fiesta 1.8D driving from Nottingham to Yorkshire to Wales, few trips round Wales, then back to Yorkshire - barely more than a single tank! I loved that car, it was hardly a speed demon but it was trusty.

I tend to get 65mpg average in my 1.5dCi Clio Van, around 50-55mpg if I thrash it and only have short trips - particularly now it's getting colder. Haven't been on any massive journeys though, so it's possible I could hit the manufacturer's claim of 75mpg for motorway driving. I'm running on 100% BioDiesel by the way.
