670 and PSU question

Hello

Was thinking about selling my 670 to someone, but his PSU is only rated 28A on the 12v rail (Corsair builder series 500W), and I see the 670 needs 30A minmium. Just wondering if he might get away with it, or if anyone has had experience of running one with that PSU.

thanks
joe

:/ AMD room heater, they would put it right on the PSUs maximum load, if you managed to load the CPU and GPU to 100%.

It would probably run, but I personally wouldn't, particularly as it's a budget PSU running close to it's maximum output.

What GPU is he running now?

100 W+ jump from what he could be using.

Investing in a Power meter might help test it out. (Remember to factor in efficiency, take 10% off the reading. (It's probably 20%, but better safe than sorry)

It's certainly on the limit if you manage to get the CPU & GPU at 100% load at the same time, this would be quite hard, but it is possible.

Unfortunalty I can't recommend this, even though it may be fine there is some risk. I tend to stick with the 80% rule, spec within 80% of the maximim output. Maybe up to 90% with a High end premium PSU.

This looks to be in the 90-100% range.

Thanks Sasahara. From what you've said, and my own initial thoughts, I might see if I can get a buyer for his PSU, then get something better for him + my gfx card.
