Hi,

Does anybody know why my 6700k, which is overclocked to 4.5ghz, wont stay at that clock? When i stress test , it starts off at 4500, as shown in cpuz, but quickly drops to 4000 and stays there. Ive changed the settings in bios for the power limit so it is supposed to stay at 4500 but still wont.

Any ideas?

Motherboard is msi z170 krait gaming

Might just be the turbo settings, have ya got them on auto or have ya manually changed each core to run at 45x?

As standard the auto settings lets one core run at full speed then turns the speed down as more cores become used. Might be worth checking, mine dont do that but ya never know, maybe Haswell turbos differently to skywell.

I have set it from "dynamic" to "fixed" which turns off turbo and eist.

Here are the pics i have just grabbed. First pic is from the off , showing max temps of 69, which im happy at. The 2nd pic shows it dropped to 4000. Cant be due to the heat as not getting that hot?

Is there any overclocking/tuning software that could be messing with your overclock?

I would state what mobo your using in your opening post then people with a similar board might have a suggestion for ya.

1.368 is a lot of voltage for 4.5Ghz on a 6700k.

I'm running my 6700k@ 4.8 with adaptive 1.28v with a turbo boost offset of 1.3v.

What this means is that at low load, or idle, I get 0.8v, so it's totally silent at runs at 20-30DC, then at load where the 4.8Ghz turbo kicks in, it goes up to 1.3v.

Install something like Intel XTU that will show if the CPU is throttling or not - could be something is causing it to throttle.
