6700k Being Bottlenecked?

While playing Far Cry 4, I'm seeing what appears to be one core (core 3) of my 6700k bottleneck my GPU (1080ti). Gsync is capping at 100fps on my X34a, and on sporadic occasion Afterburner graph shows Framerate as 80 when GPU usage is 75% and CPU core 3 is 100%.

Is this just inevitable with the game, or do I need to up my overclock (currently 4.4GHz)?

Thread title should probably say "1080ti being bottlenecked" :o

Thats normal for a game like FC4, its very CPU intensive and it doesn't help that your GPU's driver is using one CPU thread as a compute thread scheduler.

Overclocking the CPU will help but only by the amount you can get out of the CPU.

It's normal for a game like Far Cry 4. That game is made by Ubisoft and Ubisoft games are poop.

Glad I could be of help.

Cheers, it's not that annoying really. It's the first time I've seen 100% usage on the CPU like that.
hmm...

This was me the other day playing Insurgency, at 4K, with maximum IQ settings on a GTX 1070. 4690K @ 4.6Ghz....

@humbug I haven't really noticed it too much before. Do you think a 6 core CPU would make a difference for you there? I'm thinking in my case it's a single core being maxed out so another five cores wouldn't make a difference, but you're seeing it on all four cores there.

Not with that game, other than balance the load out much better.

But i think with some newer and up coming titles 6 cores would be beneficial for gaming performance with ultra high end GPU's

I have seen this happen with OC'ed 7700k in Battlefield benchmarks too, for couple of seconds. I wouldn't call Frostbite 3 engine unoptimised, especially in BF. Unless this is really affecting your performance I wouldn't be concerned. It is not like Farcry games go easy on the CPU.

Nah, it's fine. I just like to know why. I don't think there's a CPU on the market that would remedy this as it comes down to clock speed, IPC and optimisation.
