6700K dying?

I've been running a mild 4.4Ghz overclock with 1.32v since it came out but today I noticed a couple of application crashes so fired up Prime95 and got errors almost immediately where as when I got it was prime stable. I dropped everything back to stock in the bios but Prime again errors after a couple of minutes. I'm now scratching my head...

I'm running on a Gigabyte Gaming 7 Z170 board wth latest bios F22f.

Is the CPU on the way out?

Run it at stock and see if the crashes go away??

its overheating or your its a problem with your memory :>

Looks like it was overheating even at stock, I re-seated the H110i with new thermal paste and now all is well. I didn't realise that was a thing that the contact ages?

Skylake is overly sensitive to temperature and will negate the voltage required for a given frequency

Isn't that a bit high for that overclcok? i'm running a 4690K @ 4.6Ghz with 1.27v.

Yes cleaned off paste and re-applied fresh stuff.

Yeah it's not a great example, to get to 4.6 it needs 1.41v and hits thermal throttling in prime so not worth it.

Didn't mean to insult you. You never know who you're talking to and I've seen people not replace TIM and their machine overheats and they're all "Huh? What?"
