I was thinking of selling my 6700k then get either a 8100 and z370 itx board (as the others aren’t out yet) or get a B350 it’s board and a ryzen 5.
The other option is get a cheap h110 itx board or similar.
It is my media pc so I don’t need anything too powerful, the kids play games at 1080p such as horizon 3, but Xbox one standards are ok. it’s got a 1050ti in it and watch 4K movies on it.
I even thought about changing to a g4560, 6100 or 7100.
So what do people recommend?

I’m getting a refund on the board, so I have to buy something else, so thought I might change platform at the same time

They are more expensive than I want to pay, if I was to pay that sort of money I would change platform tbh. The Z170 itx boards are similar money to the z370 ones unfortunately

Have just started a wanted thread though just in case

That's quite a varying range of cost, CPU speed and even brand. Money seems to be a bit of a factor plus playing with a new bit of kit(?) in which case i would get whichever feels the most exciting/future proof...

Cheapest option is selling the 6700k and getting a g4560/board - but suspect that won't exactly get your blood flowing although it will serve fine as an HTPC.

Simplest would obviously would be a replacement board for the 6700K - but as you mentioned you could sell this and have a play with a completely new architecture which will also give you an upgrade path for a few years (board reliability permitting)

But the kids may move on and start demanding more of the system so sticking with the 6700K or swapping to a Ryzen 5 may be a safer option.

If you're after a completely new format then you can get decent priced mini ITX for Ryzen coupled with a standard 1600 - and this would cover the kids if they started playing more demanding games and also give you a solid upgrade path with future Ryzen releases - plus you already have 3200MHz memory which is also a bonus.

For example price purposes:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £301.48 (includes shipping: £10.50)

I would pick whichever path suits, budget, possible future usage and itch...

I have 8gb 2400 in this. The other is in my main rig. Which I keep getting the bug to change to a 1700, but am trying to hold out until the new release. I get bored lol.
Yeah budget is an issue on my htpc. Don’t really want to put extra cash into it, especially at 300 when I would guess performance would be worse.

If that's your main rig in your sig i would definitely wait for Ryzen 2/+ to satisfy that itch as i doubt you'll be blown away with a move to a 1700 moving from a 6700k.

If money is a novelty at the moment, and you're confident that your kids aren't going to demand more from the system, then you could consider downgrading the HTPC spec. Sell the 6700K and then the 6700k/motherboard in your sig when Ryzen 2/+ is released and reviewed etc. Should relieve the boredom for a bit... :)

Sounds like a good plan, I’ll see what comes up cheers. Don’t get much choice with itx unfortunately
