Hi,

I have an MSI Z170 Krait Gaming Motherboard running a stock I7 6700k and Team Group Vulcan 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit ram.

I know quad channel ram wont work on skylake but both pairs of sticks would run as dual channel so I was told.

Anyway, I cant get the ram to run any faster than 2133mhz and when I overclocked the processor to 4.5 by adjusting the clock and putting volts to 1.325, it refused to boot.

Any ideas?

Matt

Hey man. I can see you got the same CPU and mobo as me. What frequency and voltage did you managed to get your 6700K to.?
I'm trying to figure out if it's the chip or the mobo holding me back. Thanks.

What are you currently able to get it to?

Try with two sticks on dual channel at XMP. Then slacken the timings accordingly to try to fix this issue. You may also need a little more SA and IO voltages for IMC at 3000mhz Once dual is working try four stick.

One reason quad channel kits are not working on Skylake is they are made for X99. The CPU's on X99 have a different IMC and as such tend to set the lower timings a lot slacker than Skylake tends to implement in training. This is one reason you get boot issues.

The other is the SPD's on the sticks are programmed for X99 and not Z170 so again causing incorrect detection and setting of lower timings in training so no boot.
