I'll be ordering my new mobo/cpu/mem within the next 2 weeks but I cannot decide on which platform to go for, Z170 or X99.

I mostly just game, Listen to music and watch films with the occasional Adobe Premier project.

The price between them isn't an issue but the performance is as so many places have different performance numbers between these CPU's.

Any insight is much appreciated :)

5930k. End of.
Got myself the 5820k, absolute beast, upgraded from an 8320 and was between the 6700k and 5820k but went with X99 and I have not regretted it one bit, its an animal!

yeah did the same was lucky to get a new 5930k the same price as a new 5920k so no brainer really.

Go for the 5820k unless you can get the 5930k for a similar price, you really need 40 pcie-e lanes or insist on having the fastest hex core but refuse to overclock.

Both the 5820 and 5930 will on average overclock to a similar level

I got the 5930K brand new for £370 as the box was opened but the actual chip wasn't taken out so a bit of a bargain :)
