6700k or 5960?

This is my point, for such CPUs like i7 from sandybridge to until now, there is no "feel-able" difference in gaming between those chip. Even an i5 4670K could do the job decently. They differ themselves in such heavy CPU/threads demanding tasks like rendering, encoding,... and in the features they bring (Haswell-E with quad channel memory, soldered IHS, 40 native pcie lanes,...).
Therefore, choosing a cpu in this tier, you don't even need to worry for its gaming ability. Just pick the one that brings the features/look you want which is affordable the most for you.
Just gaming? an i7 4790K will set your back for at least 3 more years and relatively cheap compared to those two.

Ok, well unless £500 means very little to you or you really love having the best computer hardware, go for the 6700K.

You won't lose a substantial amount of money on depreciation and for gaming, once both are overclocked there will be a negligible difference.

If however you do time sensitive CPU processing tasks, then you may wish to consider the 5960 or even dual CPU set ups.
