Hi people, quick thoughts on upgrading from an 8GB 6600 to a 12GB 6700XT. I have 1440p monitor, but is the approx £140 overall outlay I'd be making worth it.

TPU have it as 42% faster, on average, which if you're struggling to play games @ 1440p might be worth it to you.

Would recommend checking out some videos:

If we're talking buying a new 6700xt then yes at 1440p, IF you need the extra performance. I have the 6600 and would do the upgrade if i felt i could utilise the card right now. If you're happy with the 6600 then the 6700xt should allow the same enjoyment for a good while given the large increase in vram.

I've found the 6700xt for £280 so its very tempting. I got the 6600 in April/May time as my first foray into PC gaming and am finding myself now playing most days. Whilst all games have so far been playable (and enjoyable) - Im currently playing SotTR and am getting about 70FPS on basically high settings, so its extremely playable, but monkey see monkey want as they say and I did get an almost £600 bonus in this last pay packet and am talking myself into it as I type :)

The Witcher part in one of the videos above helped sway to a yes as well showing 47 v 83 FPS at 1440p.

i see you asked the same question on HUKD lol
it's approx 40-45% increase in performance (see @Tetras post)
it's just about on the cusp of a decent upgrade - normally i would say +50% for the upgrade to be noticeable (and worth the time, hassle, +/- money involved)

Good call, it last you a good while at 1440p, plenty of VRAM for longevity and the 6750 wasn't worth the extra.

£280 is a great price - I picked up a 6750xt for £329 recently and by all accounts its still not worth the extra £50 on that price!

Its running most games at top/ultra settings at really decent 1440p framerates.

Well I bought it, I had been looking at 6750XTs recently, but as this was £70 less Im happy.

I think that's a good call. A 6750XT is essentially a very slightly faster 6700XT. Not worth 25% more money.

I bought a 6700XT recently (for £300). I also game at 1440. It's fine unless you're playing Starfield. But that's Starfield. It's not normal. Or 7 Days to Die, which is notoriously bad on performance in cities. But again, that's not normal (and not as much due to the graphics card as it's a voxel game).

I think it will do me for a couple of years, probably. Although I do already have a slight case of upgraditis and slightly regret not buying a 7900XT when they were briefly £700. But only a slight case of upgraditis. The 6700XT is fine really. Just the job as a tide-over card until next gen is out and I can see if any of those are worth the money to me. I'm getting 100+ average fps in all the games I play. 200fps in some of them. Fine for the time being. Really. It's fine. I don't really want another new toy. Honestly.

You've just ordered a 7900 haven't you?

I ran a 6700xt on a 1440p 32" panel for quite a while and it smashed through it admirably. Only things I ran into a drop from vsync was with RT e.g. DOOM Eternal. Even ran my current ultrawide on it for a bit too and no problems getting to vsync 60 on 99% of stuff

Under rated cards and pack a real punch.

Been thinking about an upgrade myself currently got a 6650xt and I've noticed it starting to struggle I do have my eye on a 7800 but not keen on dropping nearly 600 quid on a GPU a 6700 seems more reasonable

6700XT isn't going to be a massive upgrade on what you have. Turn a few settings down and wait until the 7800XT hits reasonable pricing. If you can get a Pulse for £450 in a few months time, maybe even Black Friday, although it's mostly just another scam these days, that's going to be a lot better allocation of your money than £300 on a 6700XT and you'll be set for a lot longer - i'massuming you're at 1440p as the 6700XT and 6800XT are cards which currently make the most sense at that resolution. Plus with a newer gen card you're probably going to get better FSR3 implementation than on old tech. Plus you're getting 16GB VRAM.

Sort of in the same boat with a 6700XT - 7800XT/7900XT are just £100 overpriced for me to upgrade. I'll happily stay with this card for another year though.

Not now. The older I get the more resistance I gain to upgraditis. Part of the reason why I have spare money now. The more the prices go up, the less appealing the products are to me. £800 for a graphics card is solidly in "not worth that much to me" territory. Even if it was a 4090 I probably wouldn't. It's only a mild case of upgraditis. Also, I know it would switch to something else afterwards. New motherboard, CPU and memory. Faster SSD. There's usually something.

With the 7700XT being released, should we see a drop in price for the 6700Xt?

I'd be surprised if it happens soon, because AMD did the usual thing of releasing the new models at a higher price point. When the 6700 XT sells out, then maybe they'll drop.

With the 6750xt available I thought the 6700xt would dry up long ago.

My son has a 6750xt powering 2 x 1440p monitors and it works a treat.
