my friend as not gamed for a bit is rag is running an

i5 760 @3.4
8gb XMS3 1600mhz
1 x XFX 6770 1gb

now he is wanting to get GTA V on the PC as the xbox is getting phased out and hes not getting an xbox 1, will the 6770 be up to the job. if not a second 6770 would cost him £50 so would 2 x 6770 be upto the job, or is it just time for a new card

he is not expecting to play at max but would like to run is 24" monitor @ 1080, with a playable FPS

I really don't think it will and why not just get it on the xbox seen as it is not going to be phased out for another few years and on that setup it would not play anything like the xbox version.

My opinion is to just buy the xbox version.

If it's as horribly optimised as GTAIV on the PC, it will probably limp along at medium/low settings at 1080 with a 6770

yer there killing about in 2015 but his just red-lighted and buying a new console for £170 is stupid when it will be phased out in around 15 month ish

xbox 1 is about £500 he can get a 770gtx and a 1156 i7 and have £100+ change, would that no be a better option?

IIRC the main problem with GTA4 on PC was the poor optimisation - particularly in regards to the CPU. This was generally overcome by using a three core CPU or better. However, when released (2008) many people with good gaming rigs only had dual core CPUs and many just couldn't play it well. However, a HD 5770 (which is basically what a HD 6770 is) was able to perform relatively well at 1080p (this test was done using an i5 [email protected] CPU).

The following is now just pure speculation by me, since GTA5 PC hasn't even been confirmed by rockstar:

- GTA 5 is being released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 initially - so the game is capable of running on pretty low-end hardware (although the game will be well optimised for the particular configuration of these two consoles)

- One would hope that rockstar has learnt something from GTA4 PC and taken more care on the port for GTA5.

With those two assumptions, then I would say that a HD 6770 would play GTA5 @1080p pretty OK (not amazing but playable and look a bit nicer than the 360/PS3).

I personally wouldn't suggest buying a second HD 6770 - as even with good crossfire scaling the performance won't be amazing and the scaling may well be poor. Also, crossfire doesn't help with video memory - so with two HD 6770 1GB cards - only 1GB of video memory is available.

Also, GTA5 for PC is likely to be out many months after the upcoming console release, so if he is mainly planning to upgrade for that one game then he may want to wait off buying a shiny new card - as inevitably new stuff will turn up and/or prices drop - so the same money will buy a better card a few months in the future.

Thanks very much for the reply, i think it will wait and see how it runs and up grade after he gets the game.

why will it be a few months before pc is out when console is next week

GTA V is released for PS3 and Xbox 360 next week.

As far as I know Rockstar have not confirmed that it will be released on PC yet. If it is then I would take a guess that it it will be released at some point in 2014.
