How much better is the 7750 than the 6770?
My mate is looking at getting one of these.
It will be used with a 2500k + 8gb RAM.

Hi there,

For comparing these cards it is important to know that in terms of gaming performance the HD 6770 and HD 5770 are effectively the same card (AMD basically took the 5770, added some new video playback features and re-badged the card as 6770). As the 5770 has been available for much longer than the 6770 then most benchmarks and reviews will show the 5770 not the 6770, even when comparing new cards like the HD 7750.

With that in mind, most reviews show that the HD 7750 is as fast or slightly slower than a HD 5770/6770 - although the HD 7750 has the benefit of drawing very little power for a gaming card (it doesn't need an external power connection) and it generally runs very quiet. Here are some reviews:

However, if he can afford a HD 7750 and his PSU is up to it (a decent 400W+ PSU) then instead I would go with the much more powerful HD 6850 which can be had for ~£100.

From what I could pull up I don't think there will be a great deal of real world performance different between the two.

You will likely benefit from much better power draw and temps (I'd assume) but I don't think they are worlds apart on a purely performance-based comparison.

if hes gaming at 1920x1080 res then it will suffer in some games, other than that if its as good as a 5770 its a decent card, amd just improved dx11 tesselation on the 6k and 7k cards
