I have a chance of buying a 970 for £200 I have a 680 at the moment that plays everything ok would it be worth doing or wait until it becomes necessary.

The 970 is a good card and probably twice as fast as the 680 (or near as anyways). If your CPU and resolution are up to it, go for it :)

In modern and upcoming games I would say it's about 50% faster than a 680, not twice as fast.
And judging by the 680's performance compared to the 7970 (which was slower than the 680 at launch) in Fable Legends expect the 970 to be gimped in about a year or two.

I'd look at prices between 390 and 970 and get which is either cheapest....though I'd lean more towards 390 not having gimp drivers in a year ;)

it is a i7 920 so base clock is 2.6, running at 3.2 will go higher as good cooling but not needed so far. MB asus sabertooth x58.
I have made an offer on the card and will let you lot know if I notice the difference . The 680 runs everything at 1920x1200 fine but this way I should be able to try vr when it arrives.
