Have just been playing NFS Most Wanted for an hour or so, wanted to check on something in my display settings, and noticed that the temp on my XFX 6800 GT was 91 Degrees C !! Is it meant to run that hot or do I seriously need to get something better than the stock cooler for it ??

I used to have a 6800GT but never normally experience temps that high, even on stock cooling. Mine never really went above 70ish even under load so i would try the above methods because it shouldnt be that hot.

My 6800GT used to reach temps of 120C! I didnt even OC the thing! So I bought an NV Silencer 5 (Or 6 I cant remember) now I idle at about 50C.

Mine is about 60 idle, don't worry about it. Gets 80-90 load. This is with a vf700.

Ahh was a bit worried, don't want to fry the card. Mind you this hotter weather doesn't help at the moment either.

This is the first card I've had which gives me a temp read out, none of my other cards have had that on them.

Just recently fitted an artic cooler after my temps went high. Turns out the HS was blocked between the fan with dust but it's still well worth doing. Very easy as well.

Currently idling at 53 on low fan speed. Ambient temp is 41 mind.
It's worth it as my 68GT is still up there with the 150quid cards so worth while throwing 20 quid at it for a cooler to keep it running sweet.

mine hit 106 d/c today thats after a hour of playing battlefield 2.

After a cleanup of my card/ heatsink which id never cleaned properly before temps have gone down to 55c
idle and under load rise to 68c. :)

I recently bought a brand new 6800GT and was pleasantly surprised that it idles at 52-53 degrees with just the stock heatsink/fan.

Seems like dust blocking the coolers can be a problem with these cards though :(
