6800 gt

All depends on your needs, there aren't any games a 6800 GT can't handle but the same could be said of a lot of cards (if your talking about 800 x 600 at lowest settings). Imo 6800 GT is fine in even most demanding games like Oblivion, since it can run at 1280 x 1024 with no AA/AF, max view distance, which I consider playable.

If your looking to buy one then I'd say 1280 x 1024 is the max you should expect, with 1024 x 768 a likely requirement if you want to max out AA/AF etc.

Mine plays FEAR combat at full with a little AA and AF at 1280x1024.

It also plays Oblivion on med/high pretty well (No AA or AF) but I imagine with mods it'd be really slow.

The card whould still cope fine with games as it has 16 pipes and shader model 3.0.

The 6800GT can OC realy easy to 6800 Ultra speeds as it has 16 pipes so why not do that ;)

how do these honestly compare with other cards now ? games wise is there any they cant really handle well?
You tell us how well it plays games, at the settings you like. If you get stuttering then its getting out of date & maybe time for upgrade. If all is smooth thne keep what you have.

They are on par with the 6800GS, slower than a 7600GT, faster than the 7600GS.

My 6800GT wasnt too bad on BF2, Quake4 etc although it did struggle a bit in Oblivion i.e. the mouse didnt move very positivley although it was still very playable.
