Just built the wife a machine for gaming using a vanilla 6800 128meg modded to 16/6 and overclocked to 395/840 core/mem running with a 2.6 venice core and 1gig of memory.Performance in Black + White 2 is still crap at anything above
800*600 med.detail.Anybody know if there are any older driver that may help (on latest from Nvidia site) or is it time to can the the card :(
Cheers

card is getting battered. try reducing the texture detail a notch. i find that in most new games if texture detail is too high it causes stuttering and crap speed.

I found the 84.25's to be the best for my 6800nu - very stable and good performance. I'm using the latest ones right now and I've had a couple of crashes in HL2 and some glitches in DVD playback, so I'm probably going back to the 84.25's instead.

I seem to remember mine handled B&W2 at 1024x768 with everything maxed and even some AA.

As above mate. I run on 84.21's and they are by far the best fps/ stability for me. Tryed the latest ones and had a fair few problems so wen tback yesterday and all is well.

B&W2 is one of the most demanding games in existence - more so than, say, Oblivion or FEAR. Here you can see that in 1024x768 with no AA, a 6800GS (similar performance to your wife's overclocked/unlocked 6800) can only manage 25fps AVERAGE - i.e. minimum is probably well under 20fps:

sheeesh! No wonder that game ran like pap on my computer (when selecting the animal I got 23FPS with a X850XT PE, 3800+ A64 Venice, 1GB ram). What kind of computer do you need to run that beasty?
