Thinking of making this upgrade to last me until the end of the year before I do a full overhaul for UT2K7.Currently all I play is CSS @ 1024x768 4xaa 8xaf would moving onto the 8800 GTS give me major improvements?

I did a very similar jump (6800 GT to 8800 GTS) and whoa, what a jump!

Previously compromised games (FEAR, Doom 3D) now don't know what to do with themselves, they are at maximum detail, all the AA and AF they can handle and still run at minimum 60fps and average is high 100 low 200fps at 1280 x 1024. I would make sure you run at that res, nothing less.

I'd get 2GB of RAM to balance your system though.

seriously mate, an 8800 GTS will CLOBBER UT2K7. Really an 8800 GTS is SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY, sickeningly fast.
I you go up to 2GB of RAM, and whack an 8800 GTS in, your system will easily be ready for Crysis, let alone UT2K7

I find these forums so funny. So many people here seem to be under the impression that a 640MB, 1500 MHz, 500 MHz, Direct X 10 capable card, with a unified shader architecture and many other new tricks is merely a "stop gap" card, which will last them till the end of the year...
The fact is, there is NOTHING currently out that will even make the 8800 GTS even break out into a sweat, let alone shrivel and die.
I fully expect that, paired with a decent CPU and RAM, an 8800 GTS will be able to max out Crysis....

What they said plus the 8T8's dont break a sweat with most games im running; Quake4, Doom3, BF2, BF2142 and CSS. I have a 6800GT before and the 8T8GTS rules :)

It`s my CPU i`m worried about holding it back,I see you boys have made the c2d jump already.I`m trying to hold back until octoberish but if it`s going to run ok I`ll purchase the GTS for now.

The 8800GTS'll stand you in good stead for UT2K7 too i'd reckon, unless you get some massive screen. If you upgrade your screen to a 19" with 1280x1024, you'll probably get diminishing returns performance wise if you sink your money into anything more powerful than the GTS. The rest of your gear will probably need an overhaul when its game time though. :)

Personally i would wait until UT2K7 is released before spending any cash, espcially if your only playing CSS @ 1024x768 at the moment.

Your hard earned cash will go far further when its released.

I wouldn't bother if your only playing 1x game at 1024x768, 6800 Ultra should be cutting through CSS fine, by the time UT2K7 is out there'll be more cards than just 8000 GTS/GTX out.

Excellent seeing as I am getting the C2D 6700 2x8800GTS in SLI and 2 gig of DDR2 RAM, wasnt really thinking of Crysis too much, but i have read it will be graphic intensive, game does look sweet though. That on a Acer 26" Tft arriving tomorrow and rest of the kit arriving on Saturday, will beinteresting getting the bench marks together.

Seeing as I moving from a 6800GTS Agp slot to a 680i MB as well.

Actually looking forward to playing BF2 a fair bit as well with new setup and playing CSS as well.

Went from roughly same spec as you, FX53, 2Gb ram and 6800 Ultra to the spec in my sig and it was well worth it :)

For me me 2.5 year old 6800 U was struggling in some game titles.
