6800GS AGP drivers wont install HELP!

I have just purchased the Point of View NVidia 6800GS AGP.

The driver version shipped with the card is 82.12(Beta). I have downloaded all the available drivers from NVidia and 3dGuru but none of them will install. I keep getting the error message 'No hardware detected that will support these drivers' or something like that. I've even tried the omega drivers.

The current 82.12 drivers will not work with NFS Underground or Quake4. (Very Slow to stopping)

However 3dMark05 scores 4652 stock, but sometimes crashes during return to proxycon. Gives me the 'had to terminate error- do I want to send to microsoft?'

I can unlock the extra pipes in Rivatuner and 3dMark05 scores 4854, but again crashes out sometimes.

Things I've tried

Uninstalling all drivers and reinstalling the new ones
Installing the newdrivers with the pipes locked then unlocked
Removing the card and checking for gremlins

If anyone can post some ideass I would be very gratefull. I never had any problems with the old 9600xt ATI card and have heard NVidia can be a problem sometimes with official drivers.

I know its a bit drastic, but perhaps a clean windows install? Also did you use driver cleaner to remove the old drivers before installing the new card?

I've never heard of driver cleaner. I will google it and try the instal again....thanks

AS for the latest Nvidia Drivers they dont support the GS properly as yet

Quoting a XFX tech about the same problem i had with a GS XFX card, BUT AFTER A CLEAN INSTALL I GOT THE 81.98 Drivers to work, even if the card does come up saying Unkown.

As for the crashing i have read a lot of forums that have this problem and they are identifing the Power supplies as the culprit, if this helps any.

Fish up the thread for the latest Nvidia drivers on Guru3D. There should be a modded inf file in there to support just about every possible Nvidia card under the sun.

I think I read on nvnews.net forums that the latest Beta drivers on the nZone website have been updated for 6800GS support

As leezer3 said Guru3D usually has a thread for the latest drivers with modded infs. That's just as well because apparently the latest beta (84.12) still refuses to install for some 6800GS AGP cards, even though it claims to support 'em. I haven't tried 84.12 myself yet, as 82.12 is fine for me.

Note that you can use earlier drivers (e.g. pre 8X) also, if you make the necessary additions to the .inf file:
