6800GS overheating or just goosed...?

Just finished a new build around an athlon64x2 and a 512mb 6800gs. I'm a bit concerned that it might be either overheating in games such as Oblivion and Fear, or its goooosed. Occasionally the screen corrupts pretty seriously and I get really long delays occasionally in Oblivion. I checked the temps and the highest I've seen (at least), is about 51 degrees. Mobo temp is always around 30ish. Just looking at the vid temp now and its climbed 2 degrees in about ten mins of 2d use. I also noticed when i try to force the fan control in the exper tool that came with the card, it reverts back to dynamic.
Appreciate any advice!

51 is certainly not overheating, I would say thats quite low at load, have you overclocked it at all? Are you checking the temps whilst gaming or just in 2d?

ello. no, no overclocking on the GPU or CPU. I've been popping in and out of games to check the temp and that seems to be about the highest. concerend that it might be the cards memory or maybe the gpu thats damaged in some way.

What sort of screen corruption do you get?

Does it run 3dMark ok? without corruption? Might just be your running the games at too high a setting for the card, you could run the artifact test with ati tool and monitor temps and see if its giving any errors.

Good idea, might try that. I just ran FEAR for about ten minutes and the gpu temp raised to about 57 degrees. Screen corruption is odd, screen still shows the game, but get load of pink blue etc pixels. Affects the 2d screen as well when it happens. I try to keep the game settings a mostly high/medium but I'll try lowering the options a bit.

your graphic card runniong at a nice tempture so no need to worry about tht my brother had the same card and his regualey used to climb to 68oc under load i.e 3d mark 05
