6800gs wont install!?

Hello there,

I bought a BFG 6800gs agp from Overclockers to replace my OLD fx5200. Was delighted when it arrived. This delight lasted until I tried to install the drivers for this card.

Everytime i try to install the driver the computer crashes to a reboot. This happens with the drivers from the CD and a number of other nvidia drivers. My old card works properly and so does my mates XFX 6600gt when in my computer but the new card wont. It does work in another PC though

Any ideas what i can do?

My system specs are:
Athlon 64 3400+
PSU Antec 480W truepower (28A on 12v rail)
1gb ddr400 ram (2x512)
ASrock K8upgrade-1689 mobo with updated drivers and bios

All running on windows XP service pack 2

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

have you tried some beta drivers from guru3d.com?

Yes i tried a beta driver and a couple of modded drivers but it still crashes during install.

Im jinxed with computers. Just reading this thread could pass it on to you

The only problem I have had with this card was that the official whql drivers would'nt recognise it, but in your case it's a lot more serious!
I I can suggest is to backup and do a fresh install of windows...

Have you uninstalled the old drivers and used driver cleaner pro to clear them off completely? If not, give it a try (follow driver cleaner pro's instructions completely for best results)

Also, what virus/spyware protection are you running? It's just possible it's interfering at a critical moment (though I'd have hoped for something better than a spontaneous reboot!)
