6800gt or 7600gt?

I would ask how much either or both would be costing you though? If there is a gap of any more than say £15-20 I'd just buy the 6800gt because the 7600gt isn't that much better, at least not worth paying an extra 20% for in my view.

Also can I ask why you are replacing a 6800? It might be that you are better considering upgrading another area of your system first. :)

Currently running a P4 830, 1gb PC4200 (2gb crashes my system :( )and an ASUS V999 (128mb 6800) on an ASROCK mobo

Gonna hold off upgrading to conroe until the new year so I thought changing from AGP to PCI-E would improve things a bit

It's a shame I can't see the MM yet, got paypal money burning a hole in my pocket :)

Ive used the 7600GT OC pci 256 meg card, and for the money, its a really good value card, and it clocks really well. The 7900Gs however for a few bucks more offers more pipelines , but from my findings dont clock as high as the 7600GT does. If i were to buy again, i would consider the 7900GS (450 stock clock), but only if i culd push it to the 690 clock speed the 7600GT does.

No. They are rubbish. Well, not rubbish, but not good value compared the to 7600gt.

Eh  x1650 XT (£99) is cheaper than the 7600 GT (£105), and its slightly faster
here , so hows that not good value, plus its better in Oblivion which is his main game, plus its got better image quality and can do AA+HDR.

Fair enough. I've been out of the loop a bit on the X1650XT, I assumed it was just another weak follower from the X1600 family.

Ignore what i said. If it's good it's good.

The problem is it only has 4 actual ROPs (7600GT has 8) as opposed to 12 texture units so sucks in newer titles.

I have a 6800GT, and believe me you'll need better than that to run Oblivion ;)

I'd question the wisdom of spending £75 when the difference in speed from a 6800GT to the 7600GT isn't going to be much at all. Double your money and you could get a 1950pro or 7900GS, and you would definitely see the difference then!

For £150 you could almost get a 512MB 7900GTO...
