So im having a headache trying to get my core speeds up to what i set as target in my BIOS settings. I want to go for a 4.2ghz overclock at 1.3V (tried 1.25 and 1.35 no change), but im only able to reach 3.8 and 3.6 when stress testing and monitoring. I use aida64, cpu-z and hwmonitor. Im running maximum performance in power savings settings in w10. Got a custom waterloop so temps is not an issue. Turbo boost is enabled. Cstate and intel speedstep have been enabled and disabled, no change. I have gone through all the overclocking guides i could find and tested all the recomended settings.

Have you patched the board to the latest BIOS? There were some reports that fixes on X99 drop the overclocks.

however 1.3 is too low for 4.2 on Broadwel-E. You need 1.45-1.5 for 4.2-4.3

yes, i have the newest 3802 bios, there is a 3902 beta bios but not using that yet, also have a corsair 1200axi psu.

okey, i will try 1.4v tomorrow. but from what i read you shouldn't go higher than 1.4v ? others where doing fine on 1.3v on that clock from what i read. But isnt it strange core 0 is at 3.8 but the rest is 3.6?

I've owned many Bw-e cpus and and only once with a real lemon of a 6800k have i ever needed a voltage over 1.3v. 1.45 and 1.5v is heading into LN2 territory and even with the best custom loop you'll never keep the temps at a sane level at 1.5v.

Overclocking on x99 (and all platforms tbh) despite popular opinion isn't about brute forcing the cpu into submission with ever increasing amounts of v-core, Do some reading and don't listen to the above nonsense.

Still having upstairs a 6800K with the X99 UG.

I really feel like there is a voltage og speed limiter setting im missing in the bios that bottlenecks the cpu overclock. Any suggestions? Since my temps are ok i will do a higher test, also a 4.0ghz overclock to see if it changes anything.

I tested 1.4V no change. Also went for 4.0ghz and lower voltage but there is no change in the core speeds. Still stuck at 3.8 and 3.6 ghz

1.5 volts? I don't think he wants to make a brew in his water loop :)
The steam from the water is good, especial in the winter when you have a cold....... :P

Please send us pictures of your BIOS settings.
If you set the BIOS and leave the CPU alone, it is auto boosting to 4Ghz yes?

I found that my tpu automated clock switch was enabled and cpu overvoltage pin was in safe mode. Disabled and moved the pin to extreme overclocking but no change in core speeds.

Here is a good selection of my bios settings: https://imgur.com/a/quzZaU9

I dont think the voltage is the problem since lower clock speed doesnt work with the same voltage. Just seems stuck at 3.7 and 3.6

So the new bios didnt change anything, couldt find the kb4100347 update in my log so now im going for and older windows 10 version

Finally i got it figured out! I rolled back to the last windows update, found the kb4100347 update, uninstalled it and blocked it from reinstalling. My core speeds are finally at 4.2ghz! But my overclock is not stable yet, let the fun begin :)

I had the exact same problem Adrian. Yours and darket's detective work is greatly appreciated, many thanks. I'm now at a stable 4.1Ghz @1.3V and with a Kraken X62, temps peak at 80°C

For anyone else with this same problem, to uninstall a particular update (in this case KB4100347) this guide helped me: https://www.howtogeek.com/235474/how-to-roll-back-builds-and-uninstall-updates-on-windows-10/ (scroll down to the section titled "Uninstall Typical Windows Updates" for the exact steps that I used).
