6800NU alternative

7600GS is probably the closest thing to the 6800 in terms of performance. The 7600GT is marginally faster than the 6800u, so it leaves the 6800 trailing.

However if you mean, the rough equivalent in terms of the status of the cards when released, it's the 8800GTS-320. Both were priced around the £180 mark and were the 3rd fastest Nvidia card.

I wouldent choose a 8600GT, find a cheap X1950Pro.

You find one for below 76 quid (inc vat, new).
An used 8600gt would be even less at a guess...

Just saying because the recommendations on these forums are usually, no get a ....., its better, usually the case though is, that ppl are recommending something more expensive.

Well 70 quid would be decent for an X1950Pro second hand, it certainly is the better card at the moment.

Whats the 8600GT performance in Lost Planet DX10 demo?

With medium settings i got about 30FPS, but that was in SLI, i never tested them seperatly

I know about the ATI cards but it has to be as simple as possible and my friend has had Nvidia cards lately so that would be easier driver wise and control panel wise, he is happy with the performance of his 6800NU but he will buy my DFI mobo and CPU so needs a PCIe card.

He uses a 26" LCD TV and does not care about AA/AF so I guess a 8600GT will be fine.

OT: do you like your mobo, any things that could have been better?
What FSB speed can it run at and does it need active northbridge cooling?

Stupid me I should have knows that haha.

Well Dutch Guy, if you were asking about my mobo, its ok when I downgraded the Bios. The NB heatsink gets VERY hot, so hot it will burn your fingers if you touch it, a 60mm fan sorts this but 60mm fans are loud.

Well at 3.2Ghz on my CPU the fsb is is at 1425Mhz but I think it can go up to like 1700+
