Hi,
im really tempted to get one of the X1900XT's on offer, but before I order I wanted to get an impression of the difference in gaming I might see?

I play World of Warcraft pretty much exclusively these days, but I will be buying more games in the future and like to keep my PC fairly up to date.

WoW plays pretty well for me at the moment, I have 2GB OCZ 3200, X2 4800, 6800 Ultra, Asus Nforce 4 SLi board, 20.1 inch TFT which I use at 1600x1200. Its all at stock, allthough its also watercooled, so I guess it has a bit more milage if I wanted to overclock.

So, if I went for a X1900XT I guess I could get better gaming performance with insane AA/AF aswell, running at 1600x1200 and futureproof myself for the new games comming out, like Unreal 3 engine stuff?

Another question is can I just go for the cheapest one? Is there much difference? the PowerColor ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB is listed at £282 inc vat, or should I spend a couple of quid more for a different model?

Cheers,
Matt.

is your 6800 stopping you from doing something you need to do?

if answer is no then upgrading is waste of money

He wants to play unreal 3 engined stuff so er yeah I guess that 6800u would stop him lol.

Smudge just get the cheapest one you can find - no real difference. :)

It is worth it for the latest games like CoD2 or UT 2007 definitely.

Get the PowerColor one - they are one of the top ATi partners along with Sapphire and are extremely good.

I went from the bogo standard 6800nu to my 7800gtx and the difference was amazing! Now you are deciding to go from a 6800u to an x1900xt and I'd say if you can get a good price you'd notice the difference, just like I did, and it should be fine for that high resoultion thanks to the 512Mb memory. :)

If you think, hey I can wait awhile longer, then nothing stopping you seeing the new core graphics card. They'll be directx10 compatible as well, which I don't know if the Unreal3 engine uses? Or could use?

did anyone here bother to ask what the hell type of question "6800U -> X1900XT upgrade worth it?" is ??? i mean really, come on, engage common sense. its the same as asking

"will the top of the range current graphics card beat a 2 year old mid range card"

excuse my grumpyness but theres a lot of threds like this popping up where the answer is inside the question...

Yes, you should be able to increase the AA / AF quite a bit.
Its an awesome card & at higher res with AA / AF thats where these cards really shine.

As for the card, just get whichever is the cheapest, but have a look at the XTX cards too, as some are very cheap at OcUK also.

ive just gone from a 6800gt clocked to ultra to a 1900xtx and very happy, although im a bit cpu limited :( it still plays everyhting at 1280 x 1024 with max settings and a decent fps

cod 2 i can run at that res, in dx 9 mode with everything else maxxed and get atleast 50fps usually 75
