Hi,

Thinking of upgrading my cpu - running a bfg tech 680i sli mobo - can anyone tell me whether this supports the e8*** wolfdale and q9*** yorkfield cpus?

Have updated the bios since purchase running p32 (http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgrinf680is.aspx -> support) - notes mention wolfdale microcode etc - with p33 mentioning support for Penryn cpus - bios upgrade needed?

Thanks :D

The 680i will support the wolfdale dual cores but not the quad yorkfield, iirc 780i will support both.

http://www2.bfgtech.com/bfgrinf680is.aspx

"Intel Core™ 2 Extreme (dual and quad core), Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium® D, Pentium 4,and Celeron® D Socket 775 processors (Does not support new Intel Core®2 Yorkfi eld-based Quad-Core processors)"

So it'll support an E8*** but not a Q9***

I asked a moderator on the EVGA forums and yes it should run the e8xxx flawlessly. It wont however (if you don't have a A1 version) allow you to overclock quad cores and some quads wont work at all (cant remember the exact details but i have the crappy old version of this board and stuck with dual core).
