Hey guys i recently checked back on OCUK to see new products after about 3 months since my last check.. noticed the 6850, 6870 etc.

How do these compare to the 5850 and 5870?

My main reason for concern is the price as they seem a lot cheaper than the previous 5000 range of cards and they also have lower memory clock speed, core processors etc.

Any help on how they compare is greatly appreciated.

Good thing that you asked...lots of people have been complaining about AMD's misleading labeling. But I'll spare you the drama and keep the story short- 6850 and 6870 are this gen's mid-range, speed wise it is 6850<5850<6870<5870. The 6850 and 6870 pit against GTX460 1GB and GTX470. But one of the merit of the 6850/6870 is that their crossfire scaling is very well...if you crossfire a pair of them, you might get the same, if not higher performance than 5850/5870 crossfire.

6950 and the 6970 would be the high-end this gen, which should be out in November, and the 6990 would be the rumoured dual-GPU card for this gen...which two GPUs, we don't know yet.
