6850 loud fan

Hi folks.

I bought a "OcUK HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card" in January & it`s worked great until a few days ago when turned the pc on the fan sounded insanely loud. Day later the noise went back to normal.

Unfortunately it`s happened again last night. The racket started after a few hours of GW2 play.

I`ve had some s/ware showing the fan speed doesn`t change, but today the s/ware isn`t showing my card at all (I know Gadgets aren`t that great though).

Is this a known problem or is my card about to die?

Catalyst 12.4, but just went back to 12.3 just in case.

Try also installing something like Asus GPU tweak (I think the OcUK 6850's were Asus units?). That should have something to control fan speed, see what that does for you.

Tried that & Sapphire Trixx, both show the temp` at a steady 29c & fan speed flat at 40%. Is that normal fan speed?

That will definitely be audible. I have the Asus 6850 and it idles at 35 degrees with the fan speed at 20%. It is basically inaudible at 20%, and doesn't really become audible (to my ears) until about 35%. For me it's definitely audible at 40%, but I wouldn't say it's really loud, just annoying.

Possibly bad news, I`ve lowered the fan to 20% & the sound remains the same.
I`m guessing this may be h/ware problems after all
