Hi All

Right just got my new Asus 6850 Oc installed everything seems ok

However my question is my old 4850 used to down clock when not running games, Where the 6850 reports in after burner to constantly be at 790mhz Core, 1000mhz Mhz Mem clock.

Is this normal on newer cards?

Ok bit of an update.

Tried gpuz and it shows it is downclocking to 500 core and 990 Memory.

Anyone know why afterburner doesn't show this ? it used to with my old card.

I have 2 of these in crossfire and when I check them in Catalyst-Overdrive they both go down to 100 clock 150 mhz on desktop.

Thanks FLumpster

I enabled overdrive and hit defaults>apply and is now idling on desktop at 100/150.

Much quieter :)

So god knows where 500/990 came from

One more question I am unable to uncheck manual fan control if i do and hit apply it comes back after about 2 secs. I have afterburner controllling fan speeds which is working fine.

Did you set everything in MSI AfterBurner to default after upgrading the card? It might've still been stuck on the 4850 settings.

I had AB ver 2.1 which I uninstalled and told it when asked to remove old files. then after loading card drivers reinstalled the newer 2.2 beta version of AB

Is your card getting that hot in game that you need to turn off auto fan control?

If not I'd advise using the catalyst to control auto fans and everything you need and just use afterburner to check clock, temp, fps etc. Or are you using it for profiles?

I found when I was messing with speeds in Afterburner with this card I had all sorts of probs. Not idling as you desribed, only changing one of the cards speeds when using profiles even tho I had set it to do the same for both cards etc.
If you really don't need it for profiles or fans then just use it for monitoring. I don't need any extra voltage for my overclock so I just use Catalyst to do it now.

I was only using Afterburner for fan control and monitoring, have never used it for clock speeds.

Just tried letting catalyst control the fan and after a quick 10 minutes gaming it went to 71 degrees, it is idling around 39-40 degrees.
