6850 or 6870?

After looking at reviews is it worth paying the extra to go from a 6850 to a 6870?

I haven't bought one yet in case it sounded like i already have the 6850!

Depends at what resoloution you play games at.

Both cards are good value for money and in my eyes the increase in price is directly proportionate to the increase in performance between the 6850 and 6870.

If you think it is worth it (after looking at benchmarks) then go for it.

I had a 6870 with the components shown in my signature and in BF3 I could run at high settings with FXAA on High and MSAA off and achieve 45-80 FPS in multiplayer which I thought was really good for what is a lower mid-range card.

Well the difference in the benchmarks seems to be a decent gain so I will go with the 6870

Go for a 6870 if you can, the extra horses are noticeable.


Having owned both, I'd say they still represent good value for money.

Are you looking at the XFX one from OCUK on This Week Only as the comments seem to suggest this is a very loud card... worth keeping in mind.

I would probably go for the MSI one if it is a quieter card?

6870 reference are generally pretty loud any way. I don't think that's the XFX one in particular.

Just going by the comments on the site, might be worth trying to find some specific reviews of each to see if really an issue, if it was awful you could always DSR it back to OCUK.
