Essex innit!
Second board and the same problems as the first board. It constantly reboots every second and sits with error code 00. Things I have tried are:

Resetting CMOS.
Putting the latest BIOS on.
Sitting everything on a box and booting
Using one stick of memory.
Another PSU
Making sure the 24 pin and 8 pin are connected.

Pulling my hair out now and surely 2 motherboards can't be duff? CPU possibly?

Sorry to hear this Gregster, I had a load of probs with my X99 setup and a 5820K. Gave up in the end and went Skylake which just works.

Had to RMA my mobo now as well, as I just re tested for selling and it won't even post so it's gone back for RMA. X99 can be a pity.

How did you get latest BIOS on with no post? Have you got another PSU to try?

There is a inbuilt utility that doesn't need anything connected except the mobo and PSU and you plug a mem stick into a particular USB and that flashes it. Did some google searching and do see a lot of problems but I thought I was better than that and could get past anything. Yep, got 3 PSUs and same result on all 3.

Sorry bud, nightmare when this happens could be any single component, or a combination of them with that particular mobo.

Could send that lot back and grab a nice 1151 board and 6700K, hassle free. Low power and great for gaming. Save a wad of cash too. Or RMA and hope next lot works?

Sounds like a compatibility issue between the CPU and MOBO. I'm guessing that's the old X99-A board?

Found this on another forum about an x99 asus mobo:

"If the CPU fan does spin and still 00, then it looks like a CPU issue."

I thought the same and checked the latest BIOS and my CPU is on there. Fan spins, power to the mobo but press the power button and reboots every 1-2 seconds till I turn the power off at the back.

I hear what you are saying Boom and that is sounding tempting but I do some rendering (actually, quite a bit) and would like the X99 for that reason. I have messaged in tech support and will send the CPU and Mobo back and ask them to properly test them and test before sending out anything new to me, as I hate wasting my time on these things.

No one else you can borrow an X99 cpu from to test? I remember from another thread that you mentioned the contents of the package got knoced about a bit in transit. Possible that the cpu may have been damaged?

EDIT. Just another thought, if thats an older asus board, it's possible that you may have to run a bios update utility in windows using an older x99 cpu, ie 5820k. Then flash the bios as normal before swapping out the old cpu for the new one. Had to do this when moving from a first gen haswell 4770k to a 4790k on an asus Z87 board.

That's good hopefully they can get it working their end and then at least you would know something else is causing an incompatibility.

I only use my PC for web browsing / movies / gaming these days so 6700K is ideal. Gaming performance is really strong. For everything else + benching X99 is the way forward.

You still got your old PC complements to use in meantime? How's your 1080? I've been playing games @ 1440P / maxed on GTX 1080, putting it through it's paces. Tis a monster. With Vsync on it doesn't even need to reach stock clocks to maintain 60 FPS.

Sadly not, the guys who I know who PC game, I built their systems and as typical, it all was plain sailing. I am guessing that the original box with the CPU got damaged perhaps but that element of doubt hangs and I hoped there was something stupid I was missing.

Yer, I might even take a drive up there on Monday if they allow it and see if I can't get the bits replaced there and then. I am still on my X79 with the 1080 and sure it is fine but I have new shinies and want to play :D

See my edit, iirc i also got a 00 code prior to updating the bios in the convoluted manner i described above.

So to confirm, its the X99 A I or II?

I got told that if you tried BW-E with an X99 A I board (or any board that was for original BW), the bios needs flashed with a BW CPU within it, before the BW-E would work correctly.

Bad luck man, disappointing to see as I was looking forward to seeing this build and hearing th results.

Have you sent everything back already for RMA?

This mobo lets you update the BIOS with any CPU installed. In fact, you can do it with just the mobo, PSU and memory stick, so long as the CAP file is on the stick. According to the way I flashed it, everything went smoothly as well, so gawd knows.

That is the board and according to Asus, my CPU is only compatible with the newest BIOS. I have no idea what BIOS was on there, as I couldn't get it past post with the 00 code but I did flash the latest BIOS on and still 00, so Mobo or CPU or both.

Thats what i tried too, usb flash port on the rear, (Z87 maximus 6 formula). But still no joy, was only after running the update in windows with the old cpu back in that i was able to then update the bios, remove the 4770k and install the new chip.

Hmmm, might be worth asking overclockers to check the BIOS number and flash it to the latest then if needed. Could be the problem.

I did. I sent back the X99-A and got the X99-A II instead. All up and running and will have a play soon but phew :D

BIOS flashback is a joke and 3 different sticks wouldn't work!
