6870 CF - Bf3 1 Too hot? Fine if i switch other to primary card

Hi all, am i Likely to have a dud card if one of my 6870s runs at 80c and the other at 60, if I swap them over they both run at 60c.

heh mine ocd 6850 gets to 87...... Those chips run fine even at 100c.
And if you swap them around one still will be 80c. Ever heard of AIRFLOW ??

GFX 1 (PRIMARY SLOT) GFX 2 (SECONDARY SLOT)

GFX 1 = 80C+ GFX 2 = 60C+

if i swap them so that GFX 2 is in the primary Slot, they both only hit 60+ not 80.

I would not say the other card is a duffer, it could just be that the thermal paste is not applied as well as the other. Temperatures vary from card to card. With crossfire setups 80c + is not uncommon. If i were you i would just get on with the gaming and put them in the formation that has them both in the 60's which is good temps for crossfire or sli.

You could just try opening the hot one up, re-seating the heatsink and applying thermal paste.

Just a thought are both your cards of the same make and model? as different coolers can make a big difference to where you want the cards in crossfire or sli.

That is pretty hot, try forcing vsync to bring the temps down a tad.

Im running crossfire 6970's and max temps are only 70c!

My single 6870 runs about 75 degrees in BF3

Both hawks at 60% going to just leave them in like this then, I dont want to fanny around learning to reseat sink underneath it.

Mine are in the exact same boat as the OP. It does not matter which card is the primary card, it it always idling @ 55 Deg C. whist the secondary card is @ 35 Deg C.

Primary card is a Sapphire 6870 with a reference design, the second is a new Sapphire 6870 with a Sapphire design.

But the primary card tops out at 81 Deg C. So all in all not really that fussed.
