I built my rig arounf Aoril time and got the Asus 6870 OC card from OCUK. Research reveals that this card is now discontinued so I can;t get my hands on another one easily.

If still wanted to go for crossfire can I buy any other make providing it is still the same GPU model i.e 6870. ? Also if this is possible I assume that the 2nd cards clock speeds will be inherited from the speed of the master so in my case it owuld be 915/4200 effective ?

will this work or should I just go out and maybe simply upgrade to a single 6950 or 560ti ?

Moreover would it be worth it ? The main games I play are BF3, Oblivion (again for the tenth time :) ) and will be starting skyrim soon and SWTOR when its released

The cards don't have to be the same make to crossfire, only the same model. As a rule of thumb the first two digits i.e. 67xx, 58xx etc must match.

As far as I am aware the clocks of the two cards must be set the same so one would either clock up or clock down, I am not sure which though as I have never crossfired oc'ed cards before.

A single 6870 will eat oblivion many times over. BF3 may benefit a little from an upgrade but I think that game is much more CPU intensive than GPU

edit: just noticed that you mentioned Skyrim and SWTOR as well. Skyrim is running well on my single 5850 oc on high so your 6870 should be fine. Cannot comment on SWTOR because its not out yet and there is no way to tell what it will really require.

im running skyrim and bf3 on a single 6870 with a 2500k at stock and theres been no lag or any graphical issues yet, everythings set to high quality and looks great. if high is good enough then you'l be fine, if you want ultra everything with all the aa and what not then maybe a 6950 or 560ti .
