6870 crossfire woes

I just added another 6870 to my rig (MSI 870A-G54 16x+4x PCI-E). I had a HIS one and I now have an XFX one. I asked on the forum if it would make a difference and everyone said no so I got different makes. Would have got another HIS but OCuk were out of stock.

Basically, since installing the new card my overall system performance has taken a huge hit. Everything feels sluggish now. Sure my 3D mark score has increased massively, but generally adding the extra card has made things slow.

I was wondering if this has anything to do voltages? Do I need to overclock my HT link? Change a setting in the bios? What about switching the cards around?

Am definitely sure it's not my PSU because I have a new XFX 750Watt one

Am considering sending the card back if things don't improve.

Microstutter?

Explain more on how things are now "slow"

Like the boot time is slow. My browser opens slower and will just hang for a few moments when i start writing text. None of this happened before. Everything was lightning fast!

There are general judders here and there. Things don't feel stable

K, done it and performance has increased. Still getting little freezes though in firefox :(

What's also weird is that I will hear my 2nd card coming on when I open firefox, which seems to slow things down as it loads up etc

yeah I used driver sweeper

I am still getting really annoying jittering in games and while browsing. I'm guessing it's probably the motherboard that's no good for crossfire

I think this could be driver confliction between the two cards drivers because each company has different drivers =\ Im on the same power supply and i wouldnt expect any crossfire problems;\

Your board runs crossfire in x16/x4, rather than x16/x16 or x8/x8, so you're not getting all of the performance you could from the 2nd card.

Have you tried disabling crossfire in the CCC to see if that helps with the judders, etc... in Firefox ?

Btw are the freezes in Firefox present when on web pages containing flash content ?

Each company use ATi's drivers, so there should be no issues different brands together.

And you only install 1 set of drivers, regardless of how many cards you have

Decided to take it out. Most of my games were running noticeably slower.

Will OCuk accept me returning this card? Or will I have to sell it?

If you've had it less than 7 days then you may be able to DSR it but you're better getting confirmation from the shop.

i got the same issue. id be typing like now, and the text would freeze and just appear a few seconds after, in games sometimes i get massive lockups for a second or so.

i think its the drivers 11.1s im using and 2 5850s

microsutter is something else, its to do with 4 way crossfire,

either 2 4870x2s or 2 5970s and you get very fast rate juddering

Microstutter isn't just restricted to those cards above / 4 way crossfire.

All 4xxx & 5xxx cards in 2 or 3 way crossfire could suffer from it.

SLI setups can experience it too, just not to the same extent going by test a few people did on here.

Is this something you have always had or just with those drivers?
