hey guys i got a 6870 graphics card im currently running 2 monitors through DVI i notice the card also has a hdmi out, in my room i also have a wall mounted tv.

if i bought i long enough hdmi cable could i output sound and video to this ? im using a separate sound card btw not the MB onboard audio) or would i have to mess about trying to get audio from my sound card to the tv.

cheers.

Hi there,

Yes, you can connect the TV up via the HDMI port on your graphics card and get both video and sound out of it. To get the sound working, you will need to switch the audio device in windows to the AMD HDMI one.

That said, on these AMD cards you can only run a maximum of two displays off the DVI and HDMI ports. If you want to run a third monitor then you would need to buy an active mini-displayport to DVI adapter (like this) to run one of your DVI monitors. You can then plug in the HDMI connection for your TV and have all three displays running at the same time.

thanks andi :) i'll get the cables i need orded... just need to extend keyboard cable somehow and then i can play wow in bed :D

For extending the keyboard cables you may want to try a powered hub (if it is too long for a simple USB extension cable).

As for the DP to DVI adapyer - make sure you get one which explicitly says it is "active" as the cheaper passive adapters won't work for this usage. Here is a list of AMD certified adapters (look in the mini-DP to DVI-D section).
