6870 not found?

Hi all, just got my 6870 hawk through, plugged it in booted into windows fine, fans spinning etc but in device manager the display adapter is just 'Standard VGA graphics adapter'

Tried installing drivers, they install fine but theres no change, still stuck in a weird res, no control center etc

Removed the old drivers, installed the latest drivers online from AMD and NOPT WINDOWS, got power going to the card, it properly fitted, ...?

What was your last graphics card.

its a new build, I did have a nvidia card in here this morning while I waited but it was only generic drivers installed, wasnt any proper drivers

Whats the fan doing? is it loud as if it's going 100%? When I installed my 2nd 6950 I managed to knock out one of the pcie power cables from the psu, as a result windows wouldn't pick up the card properly and the fan was running constantly at 100%

You've let windows install standard drivers, dont let it. Remove the standard drivers and download the latest drivers from the Amd site and install them.
