Just wondered which is better?

Everything I've seen has shown the 6870 winning but only by a very small margin so I had been set on that, but now Some people are saying the 560 is better?

Also I'm getting into video editing and programming and I heard somewhere that the Nvidia cuda cores help with that or something?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

They offer basically the same performance.

You can find tests showing one marginally ahead of the other in certain games but basically you can regard them as equal.

As you can't SLI or CrossFire on your motherboard that doesn't come into the equation either.

You may be able to overclock the GTX 560 a bit further.

The ti560 is the faster of the 2 but not by much. It also costs more. Overclocking wise the ti560 if its a good one will pull away from the 6870.

I am impressed with my 6870 as for the money theres not many games its struggling on. I am currently playing skyrim with max settings and fxaa enabled at 60fps average. Bf3 also runs smoothly at ultra settings with fxaa.

My resolution is 1920x1200 so for the money its a very impressive card. The ti560 will do a slightly better job but as i said above it also costs more.

Hard choice, throw of a coin really what with pricing being so nearly exactly the same. As mentioned the 560 may just overclock a little further, so that with the likelihood of better performance when AA is applied would swing it for me.

Thanks guys, as for the 6870 Hawk I was set on that card until a few weeks ago as it's disappeared off the internet, The only place I can find it for sale is a guy on ebay trying to sell it for £250!

I had thought about waiting for the 7000 series to some out but I didn't think they were due until early 2012?

Does anybody have any more info on the stuff Nvidia offers (Cuda, Physx, ect)?

I've just bought an HD6870 a month or so ago and did a huge amount of research on which was best for overclocking/cooling etc, and in the end I chose the HIS HD6870 IceQx Turbo 1gb

http://www.itreviews.com/hardware/graphics-cards/his-hd-6870-iceq-x-turbo-x/

There are a few iterations, mine had a small factory overclock of 920mhz gpu (900mhz stock) and 1120mhz mem (1050mhz stock) but more importantly, the awesome Iceq cooler (pretty much the best on the market) It has huge heat pipes and a superb fan setup, that is very, very quiet compared to some I've heard, even on full chat.

I set about overclocking mine pretty much straight away, and have managed to overclock it to the maximum settings (on afterburner and CCC) - so it is now running at 1000mhz gpu and 1250mhz mem! Which is a pretty excellent overclock. I've got the voltage running at 1.3v and have tweaked the fan profile to be a little more aggressive, the highest I have seen the temps rise with all these tweaks are 71 degrees after hours of play on BF3. I don't think I need the voltage quite so high, so am going to set about lowering it tonight, which should bring the temps down even more (not that they are high!)

I can't recommend this card highly enough, I bought mine from (sorry) ******, for £150 (although I have since checked and this card has disappeared from there and only the 6850 version is available.

On battlefield 3, I'm running eyefinity on 3 x 19" monitors, 3840x1024 resolution, mostly high settings, 16xAF, no AA and I get a really decent late 48-55 fps. With very little fluctuation.

Go for one, you wont be disappointed! Just hope you can still find one of the brilliant HIS Iceq cooler versions. I had the iceq version on my previous HD 4670 and that also overclocked superbly. Eventually I flashed a new bios to this card as it was rock stable at the overclock, I'll probably end up doing the same to this card in the near future! (more testing needed)

Hope this helps make up your mind! :)

Many thanks for the reply but I've already ordered and received today the 560 I linked earlier :D

I was really looking at the HIS Ice 6870 at one point though but I decided to go for the GTX 560 as I'm a complete wuss when it comes to overclocking and I probably wouldn't of ended up overclocking it enough to beat the 560 xD

Cheers though :)
