I would wait at least until battlefield 3 lets face it that's probably the only must have game until skyrim and yea googling VTX and vtx rma comes up with diddly not a great sign.Looking like a 6950 performance might be needed for bells and whistles in battlefield 3.6950's and 560ti's might be floating around the £130-£150 mark by the time bf3 is out, already seen a few 6950 at £150 here and there.

Hmm I'd like to wait but due to circumstances I had to sell my card now, so its going this weekend.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few days for the 6870, but i'm worried about the brand. Also the £120 is the max I can pay atm (being a student means your always broke :P) so a 69xx is out of the question

How does the 6850 compare to my 4870? (1GB ddr5, powercolor)
 
I think not sure that VTX3D is owned by powercolor who aren't known for their amazing rma but do have one never the less.
I'd take a gamble on the VTX 6870 tbh it's unlikely to go bad imo and if it does am sure there is comeback on the warranty through ocuk even if it takes a while you still have your rights, right ? and you could always sell on the deus x steam code.Other option is second hand 5850 5870.
A 6870 is pretty much a 5850 it beats it ever so slightly by a couple of frames on most things and draws the same power, when overclocked it's pretty much a 5870 so the best card out there still is probably a second hand 5850.

Hmm I was looking up the comparisans on the AnandTech, I'm pretty new at this, but i'd figure that a 6850 would be better than a 5850 but the comparisan proves otherwise...

Can someone give me a lecture here haha :)
 
The 6870 is basically a rehashed rebadged 5850 comes out almost identical in frames per second yes it's faster but barely by 1-5 fps in most cases and power consumption is the same yes it makes no sense basically a marketing gimmick it's 1 louder than a 5850.

as far as I understand it the 69** are the new replacement for the 58** series as the top end.

The 68** series replaced the 57** as the mid-high end.

Not sure why they changed the numbering, probably for marketing reasons.
