Same hereNot anymore, I don't think... I've been seeing lots of offers on 690s at £700-750 which is cheaper than a pair of 680s.
OCUK had one on offer at £730 a few weeks ago.
I paid around £900 for mine.
Alas the price of early adoption. Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. Alas the price of early adoption.Ive just sold 2 evga 670 and going for a 690, i was cosidering 680 sli as it slightly out performs the 690 on some bench/games but im gong to be running 3 x 1920x1200 dell 2412m monitors at max resolution
Any thoughts on this as my gaming is mainly skyrim,bf3 and so on
It really depends on a lot of factors.
If at some point in the future you think you might buy a second 690, then buying one leaves a slot free to do that. If on the other hand you think you won't, then you might as well get 2 x 680s, or even 670s and get broadly the same speed.
1 x 690 really ought to be cheaper than 2 x 680s, but for some reason it isn't, in fact you're effectively paying the same or more for the privilege of gaining a free PCI-E slot. That's the way of "top end" stuff though - it seldom costs the sum of its constituent parts.
I bought 2 x 690s and don't regret it, but that's just me.
690 is a sweet card and if you can get it at a deal price, go for it. 2*680's can work out very expensive, so 2*670's (decent ones) will work out just pennies shy of £700. For £150 more you will get less heat/noise...If you can justify that extra £150, go for it.
I am comparing OcUK prices only.
Ild go for 2x 680 OC twin fozr"s 4GB versions . A single 690 only has 2GB of usable Ram , which is fine for two 680 chips , from what I can gather . However 2x stock 680"s give better performance than a single 690 , then add that the MSI is overclocked , and then some more if you add extra OC , which it still has room for , Then for the same money your get the better performance .
Plus are you likely to spend another grand on another 690 to SLI . Whilst you could spend another 400 odd quid , the 680"s drop a little and take advantage of that 4GB or ram with enough GPU grunt
And even if you do go 690 SLI , your have 4 680CPU"S limited by 2gb of vram , I think that would mean you can have higher FPS to the moon , but no more eye candy .

2 x EVGA 670 FTW's![]()
Hi gregster i agree that less heat noise is a big factor ,now to decide
I really like evga but for a 690 its way to much but i can get either a gigabyte or asus for about the same price .????
The only benefits of having 4GB over 2GB is if you're running multi-monitors and tri-SLI and above
or you play Skyrim with max mods a lot

More like sub £650 for the 670's (MSI 670 PE or Asus Direct CUII) using OCUK prices.
+1 for a pair of 670's thats what i'm doing over the next couple of weeks![]()

/facepalm
Pray tell, what games won't a 670 played maxed out, but a 6950/70 will?

AMD cards are equivilent to Nvidia's offering for near £100 less. Anyone buying a 670/680 needs their heads testing or have money to burn.
