I come seeking your advanced knowledge members of overclockers :p

I have had this card for almost a year now and usually get idle temps of around 32c but upon looking about an hour ago i see my idle temp is averaging at 50c. (Room temp is 20c)
My card does have the stock cooler but it has never been a problem before.

I changed my case over a week ago to the CM Storm Trooper and added a few extra fans so I'm sure i shouldn't be having this problem, I haven't noticed the temp increase in the last week so i am sure its just gone up today.

I currently have
2x120mm intake at the front
1x120mm intake at the side (blowing at my graphics card)
1x200mm exhaust at the top
2x120mm exhaust at the top back

Any input is appreciated!

Whats the temp under load?

I think as long as its under 80c under load then its considered cool.

Have you added another monitor, if so then your idle temps have went up due to higher clocks.

If not and you don't want to change the thermal paste, get a can of air and blast it clean or/and get a small paint brush and give it and the rest of your fans/system a good clean.

After the 15 minute Furmark burn in my max temp was 74c which is acceptable i guess but it still doesn't explain my idle temps going up for no reason at all?

I don't have two monitors.. been using the same one for over a year. As for giving the system a clean i did that when i changed everything into this new case just over a week ago.

My idle temps do the same, start in the high 30's and end up in the mid 40's, I just put it down to everything in the case warming up a little, though the default fan profile isn't much use if you're using that, afaik at idle it sits at around 20%.

As said though just worry about load temps, with my afterburner fan profile at stock clocks I never come close to 70c, while clocked at 900/1325 at a push it'll hit 75 on each card.

Yeah nothing wrong with the max temps. I find playing bf3 gets my twin frozr's up to 72c and thats with a rather aggressive fan profile.

I'm no expert but seems ok to me. My clocked HIS 6950, 950/1420 1.175 volts idle's @ 50c but only reaches 68c playing bf3, i do run a custom fan profile 60%fan @ 68c. Edit I run 2 monitors 27" & 19".

Seems fine to me. My 6950 idles at around 50c as well, with only one front intake fan on the case, and no exhaust fan. Which seems weird considering I only have one fan and you have six.

What model 6950 do you have?

Mine idles at 42c and only went up to 50c when I use 2 monitors.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CCC to see if it maybe a software issue?

I'm suspecting powerplay is not kicking in thus your the clock speeds and voltage doesn't go down on idle...

Can you check in something like MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z to see if the core/memory clock etc go down at all during idle?

Have you looked at the card? the fins could be clogged with dust man.

My friend recently cleaned out his 580 and dropped temps by about 15c idle.

That's the problem with blower coolers. The tolerances inside are very small and all it takes is a few dust bunnies and you're clogged.

Go to AB and turn the fan up 100%, then go round the back and see how much air is coming out.

Okay so i reinstalled CCC and that made no difference at all.

I checked with GPU-Z and my clock speeds and voltages are down when idle.

I checked the fan on 100% (So loud) and it seems fine to me, i also gave it a quick clean but didn't get any dust at all.

Could it be possible that whatever sensor measures the temperate just isn't working properly anymore?

Was it OK before then?

I would say it could be down to your system bios, but obviously if it was OK before then it can't be that.
