hey guys just playing bf3 maxxed out on 11.9 drivers!

my main (top) card is showing 83'c while playing, and my second one is around 55-60'c

is this normal? i guess the top card gets hotter as its sandwiched by the other a bit!

i may swap the cards round tomorrow as my first card is a standard 2gb 6950 and my 2nd one has the twin frozen cooler 3 thing!

am i ok to carry on playing at these temps?

I'd deffo try the Twin FrozrIII on top! 83c is alright tbh, I wouldnt like it personally but it isnt at a stupidly high temp.

Are you able to stick a side intake fan on your case? Blowing cold air from the outside of the case onto the cards might help a bit.

my HIS iceq turbo 6950 xfire also get into the 80s and i crash , i useed afterburner to put my fans to 70% seemed to stop the crashing and i can play for hours ok but id rather be able to play quieter, think bf3 need to be optimed better perhaps and other game and i have no issues at all, im going to try downclocking my ram speeds cos they are factory oc cards i have and see if that helps

I agree with everyone, anything over 70°C means your card will melt into goo and all hell and fury shall be released.

Aceofspadesrob also has clear indication from his 80°C crashes that this is not good.

Sarcasm = profit?

I understand the sarcasm but arent the 6950's supposed to be okay up to 100c? I know it isnt recommended but 80c shouldnt be enough to make it crash.

100C isn't ideal by any stretch but it's "ok" if you get my meaning - you'll get throttling up at those temps but not crashes. My first card in trifire hits 95 in furmark after an hour (could assume that's the maximum it will ever hit I guess) and I'm fairly happy with that.

6970/70/50 btw.

i down clocked my gpu memory from 1280 to 1200 and that has sorted all isuess fans set to auto rather than 70% took care off crashes and lowered heat by 8 - 10 deg, mabey these factory oc cards arnt all that

Never owned a 4890 eh? :)

Mid 80s is fine. My 5850s hit about 85 (top one 85 bottom 80ish). I've traded off low noise for slightly higher temps. I doubt that temperature is causing the crashing. Unstable system shown up by heavy load (hence temps) is my guess

mabey not card temp but if the memory is affecting it then perhaps why would reducing the ram give such a large drop in heat?, im not faulting the card most other games my cards run fine with no issues and only reach 70 deg. i belive its a issue with bf3 but im just explaining ehat helped me deal with those issues in bf3, i had a 5830 before these 6950s and that ran to 79 deg with just 1 card, im not trying to come accross arsey or anything i just not to good at wording things so plz dont see this as me biting or anything :)

You guys reckon i should but the twin frozon 3 on top then? And normal one at bottom? Only thing is will the normal one get heat from the psu fan?

The PSU should exhaust hot air out of the case so it won't affect the graphics card.

Just swap the cards around and see which combination works best.

Top card should be the frozr.

At the very least, this way the stock fan won't be as loud as it won't ramp up as much d as the bottom card runs cooler.
