hi all

ive decided to give cf a go.

it will be two 6950 2gb cards

i know i need a bridge thingy for them and a new power supply but has anyone got a system same as mine and what power supply have you got??

was looking at 750 to 1000 watt

ive got cpu oc`ed and theres some more ram on the way to make system 16gb i dont know if that will make much differance

hope someone can help

A good quality 750W is plenty with room to spare.

If you haven't bought the 6950's yet, then 7850's are a better bet, the 7 series has extra features and can clock very, very well.

If your getting a pair for less than £200 then it could be worth a punt, but a good overclocked 7950 will almost match the power of 6950 CF@1080p now that the performance drivers are doing their job, and it's less work to keep in order.

CF/SLI isn't install and away you go, some titles won't have good scaling if at all in some cases giving you only the use of one.

It's best to look into the tech and do your homework before jumping in, leaving you with a sour taste in your mouth if your not prepared to put the effort in.

:)

ive all ready got a 6950 and another if i win it at £60.

was going to change psu anyway to a modular one.

just fancied a go at it

A little test I did:

i7-2600K @ 4.6GHz
TriFire unlocked HD 6950 Sapphire TOXICs @ 980MHz/5400MHz

Prime95 running 8 threads, CPU @ 100% load
Furmark running all 3 GPU's @ 95%+ load

Maximum power draw from the mains 850W.

1250W Gold rated PSU, say 92% efficient.

Actual output from the PSU ~782W.

A good 750W will be plenty with 2 cards.

I'm sure someone even ran 2 cards on 650W but a good 750W will be nice and comfortable.

You've made sure the second card you're trying to get is 2GB?
